This year was the first time for RetinAI attending the European Society for Cataract and Retina Surgeons (ESCRS). Currently focusing on retina, we prioritised other events and initiatives till now. However, we found ESCRS 2022 in Milan to be an interesting conference, therefore we intend to participate again in the future and in the long term potentially have a booth.

Apart from visiting other exhibitors’ stands and meeting with existing and future customers and partners, we spent a significant amount of time at the Heidelberg Engineering’s booth, where our Disease Evaluation Apps on AppWay were showcased. This was a great opportunity to present and discuss our collaboration with Heidelberg Engineering with ophthalmologists and other experts.
Among the relevant feedback we got from ESCRS 2022 attendees, that AppWay and our Disease Evaluation Apps, can be seen as a way for physicians to get a second opinion, which is utterly important when it comes for example to independent ophthalmologists, which have no access to other colleagues for discussing specific cases.

Despite the majority of professional programs focused on surgery and practical skills, we found particularly interesting for us the session ‘Digital Medicine - 6 steps for a better future’, which included talks about how to automatise and standardise anterior segment imaging, artificial intelligence for screening and diagnostics, code free machine learning and big data.
